'In these incredibly uncertain times, people need some normality in their lives. They need to be able to access beer and other liquor at bottle shops,' says CUB vice-president of corporate affairs Julian Sheezel.

Carlton & United Breweries had issued a statement on Sunday night warning of the loss of thousands of jobs in the brewing industry, as well as there being "no beer" available in Australia for at least three months if beer was not given exempt status.Credit:"In these incredibly uncertain times people need some normality in their lives. They need to be able to access beer and other liquor at bottle shops," said CUB vice-president of corporate affairs Julian Sheezel.

"Off license parts of those premises [pubs and hotels], or bottle shops, that particularly applies in places like Tasmania, and in Queensland I understand, they will be excluded from these arrangements, they work like any other retail premises - they are not a place of people gathering, in an off-licence bottle shop,” he said.

Dozens of people lined up with trolleys full of their beverages of choice on Sunday evening in Brunswick, snaking their way around the store's aisles – including Brunswick housemates Simon Giacomo, 31, and Jai Ashman, 31. "We're looking out for our future selves, our nest eggs" said 29-year-old Abbey Sutton of her boxes of red wine.

Not surprised. The ABC is pushing the barrow for liquor stores to close. Of course ppl are going to stick up before it’s too late. Who knows how long this will last.

Well I understand this more than the toilet paper freakout !!

AlboMP is this CUB vice-president of corporate affairs Julian Sheeze for real. Normality of people stock piling a drink. There is an idiot born everyday. This man is a disgrace clearl profit focused like the PM, Frypan & Cormann. It people like Sheeze who needs 2 get the virus

By the looks of it premier Daniel is not one of the smartest person in Victoria

That's just so Aussie...and very stupid.

Me WFH.....

If you think that raiding shelves & stockpiling booze is more important than people with faith being locked out of their places of worship for 6 months, then you have lost your ability to resonate with those Australians. WTF

Coupled with the ‘mummy needs a drink’ stereotype, this is extremely dangerous.

Glad I quit drinking 10 months ago, don’t have to panic about my next drink

City slicker priorities 😂😂. No idea really

I'm in Melbourne, pretty ashamed at how some Aussies have been acting. Hoarding toilet paper and food so others miss out. For shame.

'And we need to ensure that their diminished available cash is spent on our alcohol. We need to protect our bottom line.'

Loooooool

At Least they are keeping their distance and being orderly about it..

Well, it seems they have money to burn, but if it keeps them sane, why not.

The sad fact is it really is so many people’s normality 😔

First Gerry Harvey now CUB, they really want to appear as corporate criminals! Profiteering on disaster FU🤬

Plenty of alcohol available. Brewers and retail will be delighted.

I..I...I don’t have a drinking problem.

Whether u agree or not he probably said what millions are thinking.

So long as they’re drinking at home and not behind a wheel

Luckily I don’t drink alcohol

It’s called online shopping.

Stop pushing govt deflection crowds

Lol brew your own beer 🤷🏼‍♂️

Pathetic drunks.

On the other hand shutting all liquor outlets would free up ED’s to look after non self inflicted illness. In the long term general population health would improve similar to banning tobacco products. Opinion only.

From toilet paper to beer, interesting.

What they don’t need is billionaires bragging how sales are up boycottharveynorman

Concur

I quit 18 months ago, given the rampant nature of alcohol consumption in Australia, I have been self isolating ever since

Didn't Hop Nation and all the little independents just get hit with new tax laws and not CUB or the other 'big' boys? And CUB wants more exempt status..... Not like he has a horse in this race.

I just called in to Dan Murphy to grab a bottle of wine the store was full people stockpiling cases of alcohol THis is not normality its a recipe for disaster

Thanks Julian, I am sure you will back up your opinion with some evidence as to how alcohol helps people get through tough times?

Straya 🙄

Our media continually hitting us with empty supermarket shelf photos, of hoarders with full trolleys, of people brawling over toilet paper. Hysteria-makers, you are the problem, you are culpable. Do better.

What about marijuana , to relax people, heroin to really relax them Shut down all non essentials ffs.

Alcohol will ease the panic right

So they can sit at home by themselves and get wasted? Maybe they could develop a real drinking problem as well 👍

Two can limit or two slab limit?
