But one can still option a manual on some performance cars and pickup trucks.Visit Business Insider's homepage for more storiesTime was when many vehicles offered a manual option, either because customers wanted performance, or because they wanted better fuel-economy — or because they just wanted a cheap option.
While one can still find manual transmissions on vehicles in Europe and South America, automatics are the rule in the US. Even some performance cars have dropped the manual options, most notably Ferrari. Most people no longer learn to drive on a stick-shift, and for the most part, automatics yield good fuel economy and can be had on inexpensive cars. Here's a rundown of some of my favorites, ranked from most satisfying to least:
1. The MINI John Cooper Works is a savage little beast of a car. I just love the thing, but it absolutely terrified me.2. The MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4 that I tested a while back is a performance version of MINI's anti-SUV.3. My beloved Mazda MX-5 Miata! The ultimate roadster is about as much fun as it's possible to have on four wheels.
I love the stories of the idiots trying to steal the cars and are dumbfounded how to start or even drive away, l learned to drive a stick shift in an army jeep back in the early 80's when I went in the service
The stick option on the Tacoma was the whole reason I even looked into and bought a Tacoma. My now 7 and 3 year old boys will learn to drive stick when it is time.

I love my Miata stick 😀
My younger brother taught me on our mom’s ‘88 Toyota Corolla. I haven’t had a stick in 14 years, can’t have one now because my hubby can only drive an auto due to limited movement from a stroke. I miss having a stick.
The problem is America 😂 but these Germans are trying to get into that market and are slowly getting rid of the gear stick
I stilll drive stick shift and love it! Makes me feel like a real car racer aha
