Numsa and Sacca said they were left with “no option but to consider legal action to apply for an application to remove the BRPs [business rescue practitioners]”.

They rejected “attempts by these failed BRPs to coerce workers into signing for hollow empty retrenchment packages, when the BRPs have been unable to deliver on a turnaround plan to save our national carrier and save jobs”.

Rescue practitioners Leslie Matuson and Siviwe Dongwana warned in their “notice to all affected persons” on Thursday that SAA does not have enough funds to continue paying staff after April 30 and “bear the costs of the wind-down process”, saying employees had to quickly agree to a retrenchment process to ensure they received severance packages.

The practitioners said these were the only two options left for the airline after they were told by the government on April 10 that no further funding “would be provided or available” to them to “develop and implement a business rescue plan”. The practitioners say that “if an agreement can be reached with the employees, a business rescue plan can be developed and published”.

Based on what was this decision made.... Eish.

The unions are part of the reason SAA is where it is today, along with corruption and mismanagement. They went on strike when everyone told them not to. Why don't the unions fund SAA?

With no mon6the workers will not get paid and start to strike again, I think this union's had realised that time for them to call the shots are over

Unions have become a diaster for Africa ! With knowledge of South African economy and the diaster awaiting all south Africans in the job market, unions still wanted to bleed Government dry when they themselves put the government in place! They caused SAA to fall ,they must buy it

So no-one will throw SAA a lifeline, airlines the world over even well run ones are going under but somehow the unions think there is another solution 🙄

SAA can run smooth if they can it to some businessman like Motsepe. A silent businessman.
