Interoperability challenges have plagued health systems for years — and the HCSC-Epic platform could begin to resolve some of these issues

all of a patient's necessary medical records and administrative processes like prior authorizations into one place — which would allow for a quicker and more structured view of patient information. This should cut down on the time clinicians spend on documentation and add to the time they spend caring for patients — which should improve the quality of care patients receive overall.

We think clearing the way for less encumbered data exchange between payers and providers should help clinicians transition to value-based care models. VBC ties physician payments to positive patient outcomes rather than the number of services provided — which could significantly cut claims cost for insurers, while improving the quality of care.

HCSC and Epic's data platform should encourage other massive EHR vendors to forge tie-ups with payers to build similar information exchange tools to keep up with the HHS' new interoperability rules. For context, the HHS has finalized interoperability
