GEORGE TOWN: A 39-year-old woman was slapped with 31 investment fraud charges framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code and Section 137 of the Financial Services Act at the Sessions and Magistrate Courts here on Thursday (July 2).

She was granted bail amounting to RM85,000.

Penang Commercial Crime Investigations Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Rosni Mohd Lazim said the case started when they received a report from a man saying he had been deceived by his acquaintance over a Bitcoin investment through the community platform, Bitfounder.“The complainant transferred the RM388,090 between June and December in 2016 from his bank account to the suspect’s account in stages.

“The complainant lodged a police report against the suspect after failing to obtain the promised benefits, ” he said in a statement on Friday .She was allowed bail at RM40,000 at the Sessions Court I for 15 charges, RM40,000 at the Sessions Court II for 15 charges and RM5,000 at the Magistrate Court for one charge.
