In the hairstyling industry, systemic racism has perpetuated a lack of textured hair education. Meet the women trying to change that, here.

One of the major pillars of the guide was better education about natural and textured hair. “It’s important to not only hold stylists and salon owners accountable but also the system that perpetuates the problem,” explains LaFond.

In her guide, LaFond echoed the call for better support and more representation of Black hairstylists at the top, stressing the importance of creating equal opportunity , normalizing Black creatives as key players in the editorial world with proper accreditation, and tapping Black hairstylists as leading hair specialists and educators beyond the confines of textured hair.

I agree this has been an issue with in the black community too. Ppl need to stop judging hair texture ie courser tresses as dry hair. If it shines and looks healthy that’s what matters

I was a beauty school Instructor for years I tried to teach the entire book. I had students sign up for school just because they saw what I was teaching & wanted to learn it. Then I was forced to stop by the owner, those students were so upset because that’s why they started.

Yeah but the racism starts also with vogue magazine. Before pointing at others point your own racial bias
