NEW YORK - The Nasdaq finished at its third straight record Wednesday as US stocks shrugged off lackluster employment data and advanced on optimism over additional fiscal support. The broad-based S&P 500 gained 0.6 per cent to 3,327.77, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.5 per cent to 10,998.40.
A report from the Institute for Supply Management showed better than expected business activity in July, although the employment component of the report was poor. That announcement came after Novavax announced positive clinical results of another vaccine candidate, boosting shares by more than 10 per cent.
However, investors focused on strong results at its Disney+ streaming service, which already has more than 100 million paid subscribers.
