Lord & Taylor, the first department store established in the US, is officially going out of business, ending a nearly 200-year run.

The bankrupt company announced Thursday that all of its 38 remaining stores and website have begun liquidation sales — a reversal from last week's decision to keep 14 locations open.

Lord & Taylor opened its first store in New York in 1826.According to its website, Lord & Taylor was created by English immigrants Samuel Lord and George Washington Taylor when they opened their first store on the Lower East Side of Manhattan nearly 200 years ago. The store would grow and relocate six times over its first 80 years, moving into its flagship Fifth Avenue store near Times Square in 1914. By then the company had already been publicly traded for 10 years.

Yeah now I'm just waiting for you to blame Trump's republican 'DARK' Party. I'm really disappointed in how every MSM has decided to project there dark sins onto the movement to save our democratic republic . How THAT working for you ? I'm expecting the MSM to get DARKER liars

MAGA

Thank God we still have this Lorded did Taylor

Very sad.

Less people have money & great jobs so many other businesses will be in the chopping block...

used to love lordandtaylor but i stopped shopping there, when they wouldn't remove Ivanka Trump merchandise from the shelves. glad to see them go. Resisters Resistance resist

This is sad. My wife and I always loved malls, particularly for the department stores like Lord & Taylor and others.

Ummm... “the economy is roaring” - Larry “I’m never right” Kudlow

was it looted to many times?

What a shame!

Weren't they one of the companies to help with slavery? Torn about feeling bad for them.

The Trump Economy

Sad 😢 I remember shopping there with my parents as a kid. I continued shopping there as a teenager and young adult until the store I shopped at closed. That was a long time ago 🤔

This is sad.

This might be embarrassing, but I’ve had two Lord and Taylor shirts for 30 years. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Trump killed it...just like he killed Herman Cain.

realDonaldTrump is making America great one failed business at a time.

Trump kills everything.

TrumpsAmerica SUCKS.

I loved Lord & Taylor so much. I see why it struggled but, man, so many glamorous memories there 💔

I feel sorry for young folk today, few things are as pleasurable than to walk into a high end department store, with beautifully displayed merchandise, relaxing music, lovely smell, stylish attendants. Nordstrom is a particularly favorite of mine, they are dying too bad.

Congratulations Dems

Thanks China, yet again.

Omg, that is such an institution. That is sad

So sad. Loved the store.

The good news is the name will be free of legal entanglements for the co-headlining stadium tour after the pandemic....

All because of tRump😥

Retail apocalypse is for real.

Thanks Trump!

_ReaalAmerican_ Wow!!!!!!

This Trump making America great again? Vote Biden/Harris 2020

😭😭😭

Thanks trump for ruining an other American Institution.

😔

LUSE_cannon 😱

Leave it to realDonaldTrump. Is America great yet?

jdmnd4 This venerable business, which survived wars and the Great Depression, could not survive Trump.

On trumpswatch...ALL of this mayhem is on trumpswatch...LOOTING on trumpswatch...needless death is on trumpswatch. He's NOT done folks!

Just shopped there. Spent $300. Should’ve waited for the 60% off sales.

In Trump's America.

Poor people don't give a shit You can find the same shit at the thrift store Pop some tags Bitches

Lord & Taylor was part of May Company who got bankrupt in early 1990. I used to shopWhiteFlint mall in Rockville MD. That mall is gone. Thanks to Obama's policies. CNN is the worst source of information. Your network is like a gossiper neighbor.😱

I loved Lord and Taylor back in the day, when it was just on 5th Avenue. They always had sales, and you got attention whether you were one of the 'ladies who lunch', or a college student in jeans. (me) And the Birdcage restaurant!!!! Malls ruined it.

So many businesses going out of business. Oh , but the stock market is great ! Trump has destroyed this country

So sad. This is where my mom would take me for 'special occasion' dresses when I was little. ☹️

Betsy_Manning 😢😢💔

Democrats are now celebrating when an American business closes? Unbelievable

This is Trump's America. A ruined economy, hundreds of thousands of Americans dead, violence in the streets. We are not giving him four more years to make it worse. Lord & Taylor

how? stocks are up👀

Good job Donald.

We're going to see more and more of this. Meanwhile, Trump is artificially pumping up the stock market, and equating the economy to market returns. It is unsustainable.

All thanks to Democrat looting

One of my favorite stores!!

One of 200,000 businesses that didn't survive under Trump's mismanagement & incompetence. So far Just about the same amount of Americans that lost their lives to Trump's incompetence. Japan, Germany, Italy, England, terrorist & the Civil War combined didn't do that much damage.

NotHoodlum So sad! There goes another one! So Trump, is this what it is, the booming economy, the millions of jobs created? Only trump can bankrupt every business, no other president has ever been able to create so much chaos and despair in less than 4 years! TrumpIsACompleteFailure

BlackCheesebur1 Wow!

☹️☹️☹️

Goodness, the end of an era. I have fond memories of shopping at LordandTaylor for years. So many party and cocktail dresses I purchased through the years.

The surviving sliver of the old Lord & Taylor Store at Broadway and 20th Street.

Trump can screw up any business. If his base gets their way he will screw them too. In his next 4 yrs he will do away with min wage, social security and do away with any protections we have for private pensions and it will be worse for blue states

Damn Trump doing America like he did his businesses....bankrupt and out of business! DonTheCon

Oh well

gosh i can't w all this winning MAGA

So Much Winning...I can't stand it.

thankstrump

This is really sad. I remember my mom taking me shopping there as a kid. Used to represent good quality. Soon only Walmart will be left. 😢

Getting bored, Read 👇 'Mesmerizing world of short stories' on Amazon Kindle. Below is the link.

So many stores I have never heard of going out of business wtf lol

Never heard of it

MAGA

Who?

You can blame the fake president for that. He’s the controller of everything evil in our country. He will bring the U.S. to her knees in his quest to turn America into a Communist Country with him as Dick Tater. Not spelled incorrectly describing trump.

BobA1959 THANKS TRUMP.

Once they closed the Fifth Ave store, it went downhill quickly.

good...that shit was too high anyway

...don't cry baby don't cry, don't cry...

Lord...what's next?

TIME TO OPEN THE ECONOMY UP

I wonder why?

But I thought Trump and Pence and Peter and Larry, the Four Stooges, said the economy was booming?

HAHA LEZZIES
