International Development Minister Karina Gould told The Canadian Press the government is committed to making COVAX a success but did not disclose any future spending plans. She said Canada is working behind the scenes to ensure that the new global health architecture taking shape during the pandemic leads to “a fair, equitable, accessible and affordable vaccine” for Canada and the world.

The letter, signed by a range of health professionals, academics, policy advocates and individuals, is critical of the government for its private advance-purchase agreements, saying they undermine the effort to distribute an eventual vaccine fairly. But Gould said ensuring domestic vaccine access and funding new tools like COVAX are not mutually exclusive.

A spokesman for Gould said has said previously that Canada is planning a contribution to COVAX by the program’s Sept. 18 deadline. The letter notes that Canada is committed to joining COVAX and has already pledged $120 million to the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator, which is linked to COVAX.

Don’t worry they were so far behind other countries we won’t get it for a year

Is prioritizing your own citizens bad? Perhaps the enlightened professor should work and live in those poor countries to help instead of her ivory tower at UBC and taking potshots at government...those critics should give away their share of the vaccine to the poor countries

So?

There are pretty rich organizations out there, the Vatican comes to mind. Do they actually come up with billions to do this sort of thing for poor countries?

Liberalism is a mental disorder!

A bunch of Socialists lecturing us that we should not prioritize our own citizens for a vaccination program. Who the hell else should we prioritize? This madness needs to end, time to tell scientists, docs and policy wonks to stay the hell in their lane.

Canadabuster Of course private companies are the ones developing a vaccine and millions of Canadians need it. Soooo....the govt purchased the vaccine to save lives. This is an outrage!! Hosers!
