A private company owned by businessman Clive Palmer has declared a $2 million donation to Mr Palmer's United Australia Party.It is the single biggest donation declared under Queensland electoral lawsIt is further evidence the businessman plans to play a major role in the Queensland election campaign in the lead up to the October 31 poll.
The Electoral Commission Queensland's public database shows Mineralogy Pty Ltd made the donation yesterday, with a description of the gift as "Transfer of 2Million to CPUAP Qld State Bank account".Although his party failed to pick up a seat, the businessman said his primary motivation was to stop Labor from being elected.
Yesterday's $2 million transfer is easily the single biggest donation declared under Queensland electoral laws. It puts Clive Palmer's United Australian Party on a similar financial footing to the two major political parties. ECQ records show Labor and the LNP this year have received $1.7 million and $3.9 million in donations respectively.
