Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar says the housing market is tracking above pre-pandemic levels following the introduction of the government’s HomeBuilder scheme. “It’s tracking well ahead of our expectations,” he said. The Morrison government has so far attracted about 11,000 applicants for the HomeBuilder scheme, however, the figure falls short of the initial goal of 20,000.

8 per cent increase in new home sales when compared to the previous four”. He said new home sales on a month by month basis were higher than they had been during any month in the last two years and pointed to data released by the Housing Industry Association, which he claimed “confirms just how successful the HomeBuilder scheme has been”. “The HomeBuilder program was designed to get the housing industry at least back to where it was at pre-pandemic levels," he said.
