I’d been in the hospital consultation room many times before, but it suddenly felt alien to me. As the two calm, kindly doctors told me that the cancer I’d been battling for almost two decades had metastasised to multiple spots in my liver and bones, my heart seemed to stop. It was terminal. The doctors’ voices became small and distant and all I could think was: ‘Really, now this?’
