A music business taskforce dismisses the term as a 'careless catch-all acronym'.

Published later this month, the report will outline the state of workplace diversity in the industry, and publish a 10-point plan on how to make the scene more inclusive.

"It is a term that is often used in reports and campaigns, but it's not relevant in today's modern music industry and jars with many in diverse communities."Ammo Talwar is chairing UK Music's taskforce looking into issues around diversity "If there is a need to refer to people's heritage, it is far better to use a word like 'black', 'Asian' or something more specific, rather than a careless catch-all acronym.

You might as well just say ETHNICS !

How's about human or person, who gives a damn what colour someone is.

Who actually gives a flying fuck?

Sometime in the future people will laugh to know that we identified people by the colour of their skin.

That’ll save me some time. I don’t even know what it means.

Not sure who coined this lazy BAME acronym, but all it does is rob people of their individuality, cement their otherness to the rest of society, while being meaningless and trite. I am not a 'member' of BAME, I am a Black British woman and very proud of it!

Oh ffs ...... what next ..?

Good. Barmey would be better.

It would be great if someone could publish a list of terms that are permissible. I am of an age where so many terms have become inappropriate that were being used by all happily it seemed until some decided to take offence. People seem to spend their time wanting to take offence

Dr. Li-Meng Yan shows the evidences in her two short reports that the coronavirus was manufactured and spread intentionally by the Chinese Communist Party. Click Amen00777 to read the 2 reports.

Well the AME part of BAME has been dropped anyway seems the AME part are not important. It's all about B.

What is this FUCKING obsession with giving everybody a label based on the Race, Religion or Sexuality? Talk about 'Drive division' FFS.

Who's too BAME 😂

Good

How about the MOBO awards?

Eventually they eat themselves.

BAME essentially puts anyone who isn't white into the same bracket, which is bizarrely racist.

Ironic that this story is from the BBC.

Yawn 😴😴

Black music is at it's worst in history, so they might as well drop all the latest stuff as that's truly offensive to anyone with ears. When you think of the brilliant black music of the past it's definitely reached it's lowest point.

Why is there any need to refer to persons heritage?

Stop using BAME; stop using black, brown, white, yellow, green, purple with blue stripes .... the term you're looking for is 'people'. Using any form of descriptive colour is, and has always been, the problem.

Can't we just call them musicians? Who cares what colour they are or where they're from?

Why don’t they just say what they mean ? “Not white”

Why does the media keep bringing up race lately? Is there a weird agenda?

Snowflake seems more accurate nowadays.

Ethnic minorities also include non-black people. I'm not sure why the Black Musicians Coalition has decided to be the mouthpiece for every minority, when they've set themselves apart because they are black.

🥱🥱🥱🤮

BAME has been used for over a decade, originating to replace 'ethnic minority' and to identify members of a community in need of financial aid and other support to counter the disadvantages they suffer in society. It's rooted in genuine, good work.

Can’t bloody win.

Thought they loved a label .

Oh, sod off.

I’m as woke and progressive as any Home Counties middle class white male and recognise that we have a long way to go to achieve equality. However, this cyclical nature of rejecting a term, introducing a new one, waiting 3 years and then deciding its offensive is getting silly 1/2

What is it now then, none white?

Can I at this stage declare that I'm not playing this bloody stupid game.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Let's do the same for LBGT too , let just stop with tags altogether

Anyone who truly wants to be anti racist really needs to drop mentioning the colour of the artist(s) and concentrate on the quality of the music they create. So please stop it NOW!

Task force? Isn’t that what we sent to the Falklands? Or is it now used to describe people that have a meeting?

Oh no, more easily offended snowflakes.

It's a term that segregates

Oroboros

It's back to the future. They recommend more specific terms like Black or Asian. The very problematic terms PoC and BAME were meant to displace. 🤯

In the same way the word 'artist' does not refer to any ethnicity - the word 'music' does not either. We already have a name that includes BAME - its called 'people'.

Let's hope the MOBOs are capped too..

Don't bame it on the sunshine Don't bame it on the moonlight Don't bame it on good times Bame it on the boogie

Just more labels on people as an identification mark. People are Humans. That’s the only identification we need.

BAME is fine if followed by the word excellence at least 50% of the time. A handy guide on how not to be racist by the great LeoKearse

WOKEY, WOKEY, WOKE! These people are so far up their own backsides - they're actually coming out of their own woke obsessed mouths. I will continue to use that term, if I like, and encourage anyone else to do the same. Please defy these fools.

Why is it used..

You couldn't make it up.

'BAME isn't set to be banned until 2020'. And it has been. The great LeoKearse called it correctly in his handy guide on how not to be racist.

Until the George Floyd incident and the copycat protests here, I had never heard of the term anyway.

Who’s to blame for BAME? .... is it....the left?....or the right?...or possibly the centrist’s?..... Tagg

GOOD...it should be dropped in every sphere and something less offensive used. BAEO Black And Ethnic Origin for example.

Just stop using terms it doesn't matter what race anyone is so why does the media insist on constantly going on about what race everyone is

Its racist just as mobo is

Good. A ridiculous term just to make out 'minorities' fighting for a cause. Reality is , it's fighting for your ppl first and only using others to gain support. Rather be specific!

FFS, pick a label an move on. Never effin happy.

Oh it’s offensive now?

Every damn TIME I look at this frigging BBC it's all about BLACKS! They represent just 12% of the UK population ( verified) yet constantly the NEWS is what they want, what they are doing, and what diseases they're more prone to. FFS SHADDUP about them, I couldn't care bloody less

oh really? what do they prefer this week?

So who came up with BAME?

They could just use NW *Non White It's simpler, shorter and a more exact description of what BAME means.

Shouldn't need to categorize or compartmentalise at all. Music is music and people are people. Everything and everyone as one. Plus genetically there is no such thing as race anyway if people cared to educate themselves

Black people originally called themselves: Negroes. Coloured people. Blacks. White liberals said these terms were racist so they became offensive terms. New terms: BAME and People of Colour. Liberals of all colours decide also offensive terms. Liberals can feck off.

BAME is stupid term, it assumes all of those ethnicities and races classed as BAME are the same and is also unhelpful in fuelling a whites vs non-whites position.

And white of course!

BBC urged to drop all activities.

martincockshaw

20 years ago it was offensive to call black people 'black,' now they want to be called black. Just settle on a term. Just pick a word (not diverse, that's would imply whites are not diverse) and stop whining. I'm white and wish be called white.

Is MOBO still ok?

I have never cared what they call themselves and never will. Just don't blame me; if the name you picked you don't like. I didn't pick it.

Hold on. Isn’t there a more offensive word in rap songs with racial implications? Which incidentally I find offensive.

Get over it!

WHOOPS! Sorry! Wasn't that a Politically Correct Term YESTERDAY?

I’m sure someone will be offended regardless of the adjective agreed upon

I'm trying to be anti-racist and educate myself but headlines like this make me so scared of saying the wrong thing to my black colleagues

No more MOBO then ?

Not sure its offensive but I understand that it can be unhelpful.

It’s a word who cares ban it or not there are more important things to worry about

In case you're ever in Greece, just shout BAME.....it means 'Let's go'!!!

Why the inverted commas? It's obviously offensive, like the similar designations in apartheid South Africa.

'Histrionic auto-tuned caterwauling' is probably a more accurate phrase for a lot of this stuff.

We have enough boxes already with Amazon!

How about using the words 'musicians' and 'singers'?

Stop labelling full stop. People are just people. Highlighting 'differences' just prolongs prejudice. Be a decent person and treat others better.

The left suddenly realising that their divisive term BAME is now doing more harm than good

Where’s there a BAME, there’s a claim!

One person has probably been offended so the term must end.

The term is used by the more than anyone else! Why don’t you stop using it?

The woke revolution eats its own children washed down with a soy latte.

Good. Drop it. Then when the next term arrives, give it a few years, wait for someone to get upset, and drop it. Then when the next term arrives, give it a few years, wait for someone to get upset, and drop it. etc...This is how language works and evolves. Pointless, but hey.

Drop mobos whilst at it

Drop BAME from all society.

I will never listen this 2 ! 🤮

Yep, controlling speech and words sounds like a very noble path to go down. People can still think about what they won’t though, for now.

Never heard of it.

UK music industry 😏 💩

I'm offended

Love it when the left eats itself. As it always does

we're going to run out of terms we can use 1 of these days...lol

at least when the phrase was 'non-white' it was honest dismissive and condescending but honest

Is there anything that ISN’T offensive these days?

People are people, music is music, don’t care who makes it if I enjoy it

They’re just playing the bame game

Gammon ⚽🍺 is typing...

Extremely offensive

Drop it all load of shite

Yet another race story...

Should just drop all rap
