The next frontier for retail clinics could be to increasingly integrate behavioral healthcare into their suites of services. At the core of retail clinics' business model is convenience and accessibility—and as retail primary care clinics enlarge their footprints throughout the US, it wouldn't be surprising to see them place a premium on behavioral health services as the mental health crisis swells.
The coronavirus pandemic exacerbated the mental health crisis which was compounded by behavioral health centers closing their doors due to financial strains—which puts retail clinics in pole position to step into their shoes.
