Anger that EU boats can work six miles off coast and that end of ‘quota swapping’ could outweigh any gains

, Gove argued that at present British fishers were entitled to around half the fish in the country’s waters but by 2026 this would rise to two-thirds. claimed the gains were marginal. Speaking after Gove’s remarks, the NFFO’s chief executive, Barrie Deas, said there was a growing feeling of disappointment and frustration in the industry.

Fake clickbait as ever.

Nevermind the fish, what happened to our bendy bananas? Home grown.

🎵So long, so long and thanks for all the fiiiiiish🎵

I knew they were idiots when they voted for Brexit!

Fishing industry is dealing long-term damage to the eco-system already.

As if they were the only ones 😂 😂 😂 😂

Well yes, we import most of what we eat and export most of what we catch. Brexit was never going to be good for fishing.

Of course he betrayed you.

But the fishing industry got the insular Brexit it voted for. They won. Own it. Move on. mugs BrexitLies

What industry benefits from this deal?

As an independent coastal state from January 2021, the UK government will be responsible for managing the UK’s territorial waters. An agreement has been reached between the UK and EU permitting non-UK vessels access to fish in UK waters under certain conditions.

Forgive me if I fail to care much. The industry sold its own quotas, voted overwhelmingly for Leave and failed to create Hell when Frage couldn't be bothered to turn up to the EU fisheries committee. Other industries are also important and they have been royally screwed!

Been told many times, they knew what they were voting for...

Good

Naturally everyone went over the pros & cons of Brexit before they voted. Or are some people only reading the small print know?

Four years of screeching like bus brakes about FISH FISH FIIIISH FIIIIISSHHH and the brexiters still ****ed up fish. What a bunch of absolute cretins.

Which is Guardian speak for, “ there is no real news to report so let’s make something up to get the natives squabbling.

Oh nooo, it's fish again!...😂 Twitter, pls ban this subject. We'll all have a 'holistic' 2021 as result. Thank you.

They need to move on. They voted for Brexit. Brexitmoaners.

Why is Brexit suddenly just about a fraction of a % of the economy. No disrespect but does no one think/care about the professions and service industries that mostly drive and fund this country ?

Hmmm yeah but in the scale of things.......

No ones cares about fish brexit has done this to everyone

This fixation on fishing is such a discredit to the intelligence of the public. Instead of keeping then embroiled in this one subject, why don't papers (tabloids in particular ) inform the public of the bigger picture.

It's a 'strategic alliance' . It could lead to several years of annual reviews in order to make it work. It's not Brexit, as espoused, in 2016. I give it 8 years before the agreement dilutes. A 'strategic alliance' tends to lead to either: merger or failure. A view

A 2016 poll indicated that 92% of the fishing industry voted Leave. They got what they voted for. Stop moaning and accept the 'will of the people'.

Cool. Now speak to all of the other industries who are even worse affected but utterly ignored by the tories and the media

In Cod we trust!

Awwwww diddums
