New hires at Tesla's German factory reveal what it's like to interview with Elon Musk's company — and why they're leaving competitors for less pay

Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. It indicates a way to close an interaction, or dismiss a notification.

Hires also told Business Insider about the non-disclosure clause in Tesla contracts, a phenomenon that's quite unusual in Germany.Schnittmann has had a good stint at Daimler. He worked his way up to a well-paid position at the automaker with a gross annual income of around €100,000 — and that doesn't include the many extra perks Daimler offers its employees.

After sending off his application, it took a few weeks to be given the green light from Tesla for the interview process. A few days after Tesla emailed, Schnittmann's phone rang. He then had an initial interview with a human resources staff member."In the interview, they look to see if the applicant fits Tesla in terms of mindset," Schnittmann said.

In the first interview, Schnittmann says he spoke with a Tesla employee who already works in the department to which he was applying. In the case of fellow Tesla colleagues on similar salaries, this clause in the contract is worded differently: "Overtime is compensated with the existing salary."Like Schnittmann, Robert König — also an alias — was offered an equity pledge from Tesla.
