NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has warned the ‘extreme weather event’ will continue until Thursday, and said an ‘unexpected mini tornado’ had struck Chester Hill. Follow our live coverage:

Three streets in Sydney’s west were hit with a mini-tornado on Saturday morning, which tore up a number of trees and caused a thousand people to lose power.

There are nine evacuation sites set up across the state, seven of which are in the Mid North Coast and two in the Hunter. We’ll update the table as we get more information.Warragamba Dam has been spilling over since mid-afternoon as the wet weather continues to batter NSW. At a press conference with NSW authorities held earlier this afternoon, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the wet weather was expected to continue until Thursday or Friday next week.

“That is not the circumstances for this event, the rain is continuing for a period of time towards the end the week.” The SES is planning for three scenarios in relation to the Warragamba Dam, with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian saying it will be a one in five, one in 10 or one in 20-year event should it spill over.

Residents of the Mid North Coast, the Hunter, the Central Coast, metropolitan Sydney and the catchment of the Warragamba Dam are urged to remain on high alert.

What can she do. We are in Taree. So many stock anlas and pets lost. All of our communities isolated. People isolated from the main hospital. Last time we had fires that took out everything. You have no idea GladysB

Where’s Flannery? “Even the rain that falls won’t be enough to fill our dams and rivers”

Why are you guys being so nasty to the Premiere? Don't you understand that she has said it for our good. And also those who risk their lives to save us. And may I ask what do u mean that there no such thing as “mini tornedo” it's a very clever way of saying it's less strong.

It’s a Tornado. There is no mini.

Chester Hill actually looks better after the tornado went through Only half did the job

kcarruthers Nobody expects the mini tornado. It’s chief weapon is wind

I’m confused Gladys.....does metro Sydney have the same risks as north/mid-north coast? Stop painting the entire state with one brush.

No such thing as a mini tornado - it’s either a tornado or it’s not.

Fires, Drought, Floods is part of ? GladysB and each year they get worse and worse !! and you have put more lives, homes & stocks at risk for not listening to the science. GladysB

Your fault human for being so unintelligent. Nature doesn't like you
