No fewer than 63 shops were burnt down by fire in the Tudun Wada Market in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital on Sunday.

The fire, according to the Chairman of Zamfara State United Traders Association, Alhaji Bala Vice, was as a result of electrical fault in one of the affected shops.Governor Bello Matawalle visited the market and sympathised with the traders, who lost their valuables, and promised to assist them and rebuild the market.

In a statement, the Press Secretary to the Governor, Jamilu Iliyasu, said, “The governor commiserated with the victims and called on them to consider the accident as an act of Allah and that they should always check on their electrical appliances before leaving their shops at the end of each day’s business.

“He said the state government would reconstruct the 63 shops that were affected by the disaster and immediately directed the Sole Administrator of the Gusau Local Government Area to start work soonest. “The governor also constituted a committee under a renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Umar Kanoma, to ascertain the losses of the traders and submit its report within the next seven days so that the state government could assist the victims to return to their respective businesses.”All rights reserved.
