The peak business lobby wants a federal approach to border closures to stop “knee-jerk” reactions to COVID-19 outbreaks, but health experts say it’s unrealistic now. | rachelclun

, linked to two separate clusters.

“We know much more about the virus and have a clear vaccination rollout plan, so there’s no excuse for knee-jerk reactions that sap confidence and make it impossible to plan,” she said. “Once and for all, it’s time to end arbitrary border closures, patchwork restrictions that aren’t based on risk and get serious about giving Australians the certainty to plan no matter where they are in the country,” she said.

rachelclun The peak business lobby wants a federal approach to NOT closing borders in reaction to Covid outbreaks. We’re back to talking about keeping the economy open at the expense of public health outcomes. See UK!

rachelclun No! The state border isolation must and will continue - even medical experts are saying that - business must adapt to new operating models and realise old things have passed away

rachelclun If we had a Federal approach we’d be looking like continental Europe. I think the peer pressure of the States has worked quite well.

rachelclun It must really hurt these ‘business lobby’ groups when they must put anything else ahead of making a dollar.

rachelclun When I start taking business advice from epidemiologists I’ll listen to the business lobby on border closures.

rachelclun People need to remember 3.8m astra z vaccines from Europe were ordered. EU has blocked most being exported. Local production only just ramping up. Need Look at facts occassionally

rachelclun There is a Federal approach which is premised on vaccination. Unfortunately the Feds have failed miserably, they had ONE JOB!

rachelclun Business groups are right. there needs to be a consistent response across the country. But alas that will never happen in our federation which is fractured

rachelclun Maybe the peak business lobby should ask ScottyFromMarketing why the vaccine rollout is so far behind schedule. The USA has vaccinated 1/3 of its population. Australia didn't even meet 1/3 of its March 31 target.

rachelclun Morrison responsible for quarantine and borders and the constitution Yet the state’s have had to do all the heavy lifting

rachelclun Business lobby whinging about money. Perhaps they should whinge about lack of vaccine.

rachelclun That would require Morrison to do some work, and that takes away from his photo op time.

rachelclun It’s all politics not public heath anymore. Heath only advices and Premiers make the call at the moment they are riding the popularity wave thanks to Job Keeper, when State Premiers mow see that there is back lash on snap closures from the electorate they will change their tunes

rachelclun Business lobby might try lobbying Federal Government to improve vaccination roll-out.

rachelclun The main problem being that the federal government have repeatedly proved before and during Covid that they couldn't organise a root and in a brothel with a fistful of fifties.

rachelclun The State and Territory Premiers and Chief Ministers will love this one.

rachelclun

rachelclun I love how 'business' wants to decide what are knee jerk reactions or not 🤣😂
