NSW coal industry would die in 20 years, worst-case scenario predicts | MattWadeSMH

Coal jobs would disappear entirely in NSW within 20 years if international demand shrinks, according to one of three scenarios about the future of the industry prepared for the government by the state’s Treasury Department.

“This does not necessarily mean that no coal will be used in the future – new coal generators continue to be built and net zero policies allow for offsets. Nonetheless, future coal production is now expected to be considerably weaker than was forecast for the 2016 intergenerational report,” the paper says. The NSW intergenerational report, released by the state government on Monday, said energy generation in the state is likely to be “mostly” sourced from renewable energy by 2040.

Mr Perrottet claimed the NSW government’s electricity infrastructure road map was designed to avoid the costly “slow and disorderly” transition scenario.

MattWadeSMH Is the best case scenario ~5 years?

MattWadeSMH Meanwhile the rest of the world is building new coal fired power stations whilst the SMH continues it's far left global warming agenda.

MattWadeSMH Only if you're only uranium takes over

MattWadeSMH We need now an urgent plan for ALL aging coal fired power plants to be replaced by renewable PLUS sufficient pumped hydro. All electricity hungry projects(eg WSA & Aerotropolis) to be stopped/shelved. NSW power spot price spikes May 2021 become regular

MattWadeSMH Surely that is the best case scenario for the planet…

MattWadeSMH Good. Hope so.
