Business groups are warning state and territory leaders that continuing to lock down once 70 to 80 per cent of the eligible population is vaccinated against COVID-19 will cause more economic damage and job losses.

Some state leaders are concerned about the national plan to “live with the virus” and the ability for health systems to cope as more people are infected once restrictions are relaxed. But Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg havewhen vaccination rates exceed these targets. BCA chief executive Jennifer Westacott urged state leaders to stick to national reopening targets at these vaccination points.

“We urge governments to commit to limiting lockdowns once vaccination targets are achieved unless community transmission is putting pressure on health care systems,” Mr McKellar said. “What ACCI has continued to stress is that plans to move us forward have to equally balance both the health and economic costs.”

She said up until the Doherty Institute modelling was released, there had been nothing to work towards.

JennieDuke Just totally over listening to business groups/owners whinging about their lot. Do they care about the people dying, suffering long-term affects of covid. Just so they can rip off the Australian public eg jobkeeper and many others.

JennieDuke Are these business groups going to donate money to prop up the public hospitals when they’re going to be under duress 🤔

JennieDuke They’ve been opposed to every single public health measure that damages their profits from the outset of the pandemic, so you’d hardly expect them to be saying anything different now. The shame is that the media report their “warnings” as anything other than self interest.

JennieDuke Ninefax performs obligatory stenography for the capitalist death cult.

JennieDuke Seriously, if the Victorian CHO, health authorities & Daniel Andrews cannot think outside the one trick sledge hammer lockdowns, the same since March 2020, then it's time to move on and get some fresh eyes and common sense back as Victorians have had it. SkyNewsAust newscomauHQ

JennieDuke Gee thanks Costello, telling us that you and your 'businesses' back death and hospital chaos over the health of your customers. Going along with Scotties utopian 'open up' marketing smokescreen rather the reality of the BOTCH happening right now, squarely because of him.

JennieDuke And they are the states that haven’t locked down much at all and their continued work has probably kept the rest of us afloat! How about taxing the likes of fortiscue a tad more!!

JennieDuke No doubt, also widespread sickness causes economic damage. Sick kids also cause economic damage.

JennieDuke Yet not a single relevant expert opinion was sought for the article. Just the view of business lobbies who want businesses open. That's just stating the self-interested obvious.
