At least five people charged in the Capitol riot have chosen to defend themselves in court. That has led to some curious legal maneuvers and awkward exchanges in court, including a defendant who tried to bill the government for working on his own case.

A New York man charged in the Jan. 6 insurrection wants to bill the government for working on his own case. A Pennsylvania restaurant owner is trying to defend herself from jail. A judge told another New Yorker that he may have incriminated himself during courtroom arguments.

“I would never represent myself if I were charged with a crime,” U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth told Video shows Fellows, who was photographed wearing a fake orange beard during the riot, with his feet propped on a table in the office of Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore. Fellows was locked up this summer for missing a mental health evaluation appointment and harassing a probation officer.

In denying Fellows’ bid for release, McFadden told Fellows that he admitted to likely obstructing justice in the New York case and considering it in his riot case.Pauline Bauer Bauer, who owns a restaurant in rural Kane, Pennsylvania, has repeatedly interrupted the judge during hearings. She also has argued in vain that the court doesn’t have any jurisdiction over her, expressing an ideology that appears to comport with the “sovereign citizens” extremist movement.

We all know they're not the brightest

Yuk.

How is this happening? These idiots are making a mockery out of our laws. I hope they get the punishment they deserve. Follow the laws and rules like the majority of the people.

They are indeed the poorly educated

Would you defend these guys? Even for cash?

it’s alright for to Pro-se, do good DD, defend or bring someone to court in not very complicated cases including injuries! Lawyers chew up 33%+ fees & the expert BS. Court’s system are simple! Pro-Se, try it sometime! Lawyers, they just scratch one another back & screw clients!

Fine by me.

There’s a saying amongst the legal community and it’s a quote from Lincoln: he who represents himself has a fool for a client.

All of the self-representation results in a Guilty verdict so far 'New York civil rights lawyer Ron Kuby, who has served as standby counsel for about a dozen self-represented defendants, has practiced law for nearly 40 years and never seen one such defendant secure an acquittal.'

fools or something.... 😂😂😂

TrueFactsStated “I believe that it’s a governmental strategy and tactic that if they can’t convict you, they at least want to bankrupt and destroy you,” Well, no sh*t Sherlock. Something tells me that you had zero issues with it when it was minorities getting crushed by the legal system though.

TrueFactsStated Just require an IQ test before being allowed to defend yourself.

These people are brainwashed by paid influencers and can't think for themselves without daily reinforcement by these manipulative persons

These Jan 6 cases are sham and frivolous cases.

Conservatives are laughable jokes!

Idiots.

it should also open up opportunities to link others

Need any other proof we need to reinvest in our education system? Lol

They are being advised by someone.

Our country would be a better place if more people lived by this principle: “Michael Magner, a New Orleans criminal defense lawyer and former federal prosecutor, observed, ‘Just because you have a constitutional right to do something doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s smart.’”

They’re not the brightest bulbs.

If someone were to ask me what a typical trump supporter/Jan 6th guy would look like this dude is exactly it lmao

Some of the brightest legal minds...😂

This is extremely strange, is it not?

Lol, these idiots are hilarious. Wish someone would broadcast coverage of these court appearances. Insurrectionists

- отчеканить и выдать всем участникам медаль 'За штурм Капитолия'! - ))

Interesting approach. But, if you want 100% to finish in prison, especially with such political cases, then hire a lawyer.

What’s that old saw...having a fool for a client?

Nobody accused them of being intelligent

God calls children to repentance! Deus chama os filhos ao arrependimento!

People too dumb to cover their face while storming the capital, are going to play their own lawyer? Oh you can't make this s*** up

More like totally pathetic
