As the world tries to lower emissions the price of coal has hit unprecedented heights. But will it last?

That is significant when you consider China's 3.4 billion tonne thermal coal market is more than three times the size of all seaborne coal exports.

"So just to keep up with growth in demand China really needs to add an entire Hunter Valley, which kind of outlines the scale of what's happened in China." Meanwhile, China's ban on Australian coal has not helped its situation — nor has the gas crisis in Europe, which has increased the reliance on coal.Usually, when prices soar due to increased demand, we would see new investment in production capacity, such as new thermal coal mines, that would boost supply, and prices would fall.

Tim Buckley of the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis, a pro-renewables think tank, says we are in "absolutely bizarre uncharted territory".

Demand economics for a reliable, GW-4-Buck energy source. It is not just the Coal Co’s making record profits but Australian Governments and Regions. Cole has a finite life but with 1000’s Power stations globally it will take a 10 fold increase in renewables to stop it or Nuclear!

Because people are absolute morons & gullible to government?

if we dont dig it up ........wot next

Australia is the ANTI country, anti everything that would progress the nation. Here's an ANTI list: ANTI-SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY, MODERNITY, EDUCATION, INTELLECTUALISM, THE ARTS, NEW INDUSTRIES, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, but we are pro Noah's Ark.

Because this government is giving them more money than ever before?

Yeah. Just like the tobacco tax strategy used by the Government here in Australia. Increase costs to unmanageable levels and it forces the consumer to move elsewhere. In this case a move to cheaper greener energy. Coal has labelled itself with a 'used by date'. Has to go

Not 2030 or 2050 but 2022. . about 12 months from now. EVs demand will explode. Where is Australia on this? No strategies, not a race indeed. No one wants coal fired cars .. wake up!!!

Because ‘green zealot’ publications like yourselves, have force massive capex reductions in non-green industries. Result- a major energy shortfall.

That's easy coal is profitable, wind and solar isn't.
