Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon says the forestry industry is the “forgotten child” in the climate change debate.

Mr Fitzgibbon wrote about the importance of the forestry industry in the Financial Review and how it has a significant role to play in lowering emissions.

“I’ve read the government’s paper today, and sadly it hardly rates a mention, which is very, very disappointing,” Mr Fitzgibbon told Sky News Peta Credlin. “Our forests play a critical role, of course, in the carbon cycle, absorbing carbon out of the atmosphere. “What we need though is a lot more investment in the so-called plantation estate, the estate we rely upon so heavily, for example, to build in the housing industry.”
