Sky News Darwin Bureau Chief Matt Cunningham says Cairns “absolutely” needs an influx of international travellers to help sustain its tourism industry.

It comes as The Cairns Post reports Advance Cairns is pushing for a $100 million investment to help launch a revival of international flights to the Far North Queensland city.

“I think this is a great thing, they need to make this investment and they need to attract people to come to Cairns,” Mr Cunningham told Sky News host Jenna Clarke. Mr Cunningham said Tourism Australia should be doing “everything they can” to market places like Cairns to international travellers in an effort to help the regions get back on their feet.
