For years, Spotify ignored pleas from artists and customers to change one aspect of their streaming service. But when Adele spoke, the streaming giant listened.

"As Adele mentioned, we are excited to share that we have begun rolling out a new premium feature that has been long requested by both users and artists to make play the default button on all albums."If you're not paying for Spotify, tracks will continue to be automatically shuffled, and you won't be able to listen to an album from start to finish anyway, you're at the mercy of a jukebox-style running order.

Heavy metal band Metallica was at the forefront of the fight to protect their music, angering some fans who they'd outed publicly for sharing their copyrighted music over the web. Spotify was launched in 2008 and, to date, has more than 70 million songs on its platform. It's also home to about 3.2 million podcast titles.
