Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says he wants to lead an “optimistic” government which reflects the drive of the Australian people as Labor prepares to invest in the nation’s future.

Mr Albanese said Labor was all about seizing the opportunities that were presented as he spruiked the party’s investment in education as a pathway forward out of the COVID-19 pandemic.“One of the big distinctions between Labor and the [Morrison] Government is that we understand that investment in education is not just an investment in an individual, it’s an investment in Australia’s future, in our whole society.

The Labor leader pointed to the $1.2 billion plan he unveiled on Sunday to “close the gap” on skill shortages in sectors across the country hit hard by the pandemic. The package would see the creation of 465,000 free TAFE spaces for Australians studying in areas experiencing skills shortages - including hospitality and tourism - and areas critical to the care economy.Labor’s Future Made in Australia Skills PlanMr Albanese further claimed the Morrison Government had “abandoned” the university sector when it had been crippled by COVID-19 shutdowns and border closures.
