The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for an independent forensic investigation into the fire that has destroyed the buildings of Parliament.

Mop up operations begin after fire at the Parliament building in Cape Town has been put under control on Tuesday, 04 January 2022.. Chief Whip Natasha Mazzone says the police themselves cannot investigate the incident.destroyed the entire National Assembly buildingMazzone says they will insist at the meeting of the Chief Whips Forum that independent investigators work alongside police forensic investigators.

“We have seen forensic investigators on the precinct this morning. But we do believe that an independent forensic investigation is needed. From the damage and the devastation that we can see and the damage and devastation that we cannot see and the last statement by the Speaker, it looks like something more sinister than simply a homeless man jumping the fence and starting a fire on the third floor.

The party says this is the only way to ensure that those who want to derail the country’s democracy do not succeed. Speaking at a media briefing in Cape Town, DA leader John Steenhuisen said all resources should be used to ensure that the work of Parliament continues. “If this is, as some are suggesting, an assault on our democracy, then the very best reaction will be to ensure that democracy does not stop doing its work. And so the focus has got to be how we get Parliament business back and running as seamlessly as possible because that’s how you deal with people who try and disrupt democracy, that’s how you deal with adversity. You get right back again and you get back to work.

So the Our_DA does not trust the CityofCT who will be responsible for leading the investigation? Are all fires like these not subjected to independent forensic investigations? Asking for aspirant, forensic expert

This is another way of stealing money so they can tenders as usual and redonate money to anc.simple

SAPoliceService We're still waiting for the 'imminent arrest' of the 12 instigators in the July insurrection 💁🏾‍♀️

Another waste? I wonder who DA wants to see getting a tender to continue wasting taxpayers money?

If they can pay for it, I support. Too many investigations with no reports and even fewer guilty verdicts from court

For once I can agree with Our_DA Surely Bheki Cele cant be in charge of investgations🤷🏾‍♀️

Independent forensic investigation 😄😄😄... my knees🤗🤗

Africa's news leader. The fire that broke out in Parliament on Sunday has flared up again. Thick smoke can be seen billowing from the Assembly building. Inside job. They collapsed the Anc, followed by the SOE's , now the parliament. Somgaga released the lethal gas Why not just tear down the whole structure & rebuild from scratch? After all, that's our country's parliamentary building & should be the pride of the nation, not some old, raggity remnant from the old days. Some of us have no emotional attachment to it other than bad memories.
