Business leaders have increased the pressure on the state government to get hundreds of thousands of Melbourne CBD workers back to their desks by ending work-from-home recommendations and mask mandates.

“The two things that businesses were after were removal of the mask mandate and the government actively encouraging people to return to the office rather than having it as it is at the moment, an active discouragement,” he said.Mr Piper said the government was keen to bring its public servants, who make up around 10 per cent of the city’s workforce, back to their desks.

Attendees were tight-lipped or guarded in their comments about the roundtable, with many saying discussions were private. But sources who were in the room, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Mr McEwen, whose organisation has two office buildings in the CBD and Docklands with space for nearly 10,000 workers, was “outspoken” during the talks on the need to get the CBD moving again.

Property Council Victorian head Danni Hunter said the government needed to change the recommendation on working from home so businesses could encourage staff to come back to the office for at least a few days a week.

carawaters noeltowell WFH is a revolution. Quarter million moved from CBD to regions, eliminated the commutes and have escaped the rat race of the CBD. Not to mention being able to spend 2-4 hours more with their families every day. I get back a full month of my life every year without the commute.

carawaters noeltowell None of this had anything to do with protecting people from a virus

carawaters noeltowell Replace business leaders with commercial property owners such as Vanguard & Blackrock.

carawaters noeltowell Employers are stuck with large numbers who don’t want to return to rigid hours and the soulless workplaces and crappy culture that’s been exposed. This is not on Dan, it’s a problem for employers. He can’t fix it for you. They have to do better. springst

carawaters noeltowell I’m surprised Paul Guerra wasn’t quoted in this article. 😂

carawaters noeltowell Meanwhile they don't give a rats about the suburban cafe

carawaters noeltowell At least mask on, what is the hurry to unmask?

carawaters noeltowell remp up WFH, say truck drivers

carawaters noeltowell It’s not that simple. Workforce productivity has actually increased with people working from home. Commuting costs for employees have been eliminated. Workers miss the daily structure and social interaction of office workplaces. Much to consider..

carawaters noeltowell I find it amazing that people think things will return to how they were pre 2020. If you have proved you don’t need to be in the office full time no one will go back to that

carawaters noeltowell So they want to force hundreds of thousands of people back into the cbd and they use nightclubs as an eg why, last i checked nobody is forcing anyone to attend a nightclub, just another argument like the tennis, all these lobby groups are parasites.

carawaters noeltowell Or leave it. Most corporates are letting staff wfh because most are proving adaptable. I much rather wfh than return back to the empty dirty city 😖 send the public sector back 🤣

carawaters noeltowell Are they stomping their feet? I'd tell them to sit in the corner and find their patience pants.

carawaters noeltowell Lol

carawaters noeltowell Huh

carawaters noeltowell You’d be stupid to think they’ll just forget a pandemic.

carawaters noeltowell Mandates have been over for a while - people are not going back to the office on mass because they see no value in it! The genie is out of the bottle! Will never go back fully to what it was!

carawaters noeltowell Work from home is only a recommendation, it is not mandatory. Masks who cares minor inconvenience..I wear one at work. So what

carawaters noeltowell Visit the CBD, very sad, most food places closed, if you have good job pack your lunch ?

carawaters noeltowell Of course there are only benefits in working from home, not one negative aspect. Good luck when your job is outsourced overseas for a tenth of the cost...

carawaters noeltowell And if that doesn’t work they’ll bring back the rack and cat o’nine tails because business must be obeyed above and beyond everything else.
