Bayer selling environmental science unit to private-equity firm Cinven for $2.6B

By Cecilia Butini Bayer AG is selling its environmental science business to private-equity firm Cinven for $2.6 billion, the company said Thursday.

The business, which is called Environmental Science Professional and is part of Bayer's agriculture division, focuses on pest and disease control in nonagricultural settings, such as forestry. Rodrigo Santos, who leads Bayer's Crop Science agriculture division, said the divestment will allow the company to focus on its core agricultural business and implementation of its growth strategy.
