TORONTO -
The companies say they were informed that the commissioner intends to file applications to the Competition Tribunal in a bid to prevent the merger, which the two firms had hoped to close by the end of the second quarter. The Competition Bureau did not immediately respond to request for comment on the decision to fight the prospective merger, and neither Rogers nor Shaw offered details on the contents of the Friday notice.
The proposed merger, they argue, will offer significant economic and consumer benefits and contend the deal is in the best interest of Canada and its residents.
Amazing 👏
I hope it is blocked. Why should most of us not have multiple choices of internet and phone providers? This merger would allow no competition from other potential providers of wireless services, and give them carte blanche to gouge Canadians at will.
That’s a hoot and a .5. Our competition bureau has the teeth of a gummy bear. It’s motto is ‘Laissez-faire’.
As if we've not had enough of monopoly.
Rogers is already a monopolized psuedo-crown corporation that receives public funding and legal protections other entities do not. Capitalism can become fascistic if the market does not remain free.
The true national sport of Canada is not hockey, it's gouging. And these bastards are the pros. We have the highest telecom rates in the world and the least choice. But we're sheep, so we tolerate it.
Incoming restructuring... Ie: layoffs...
