Huon Aquaculture accounted for three quarters of all seal deaths attributable to the three salmon companies in Tasmania, documents show.

Mr Wiese said the company stopped relocating seals in 2016, more than a year before the state government banned the practice in September 2017.

"The only deterrent used by Huon is crackers — an approved measure under the state government's Seal Management Framework." A spokesperson for the department said there were strict protocols in place to assess applications from those seeking to use seal deterrents.

Houn Aquaculture is owned by JBS and the Greens Bob Brown, Bec Howarth and Christine Milne lobied for JBS to do this?

This is a terrible practice

I love salmon. Salmon can be farmed rather than devoured. We should be doing this. Another trillion dollar company that I can’t afford to start.

And just as a point of interest I would like to know which politicians have invested into these schemes that they gave their permission for.

Probably why Tasmanians go through so many premiers resigning as these outrages in the salmon industry that our parasites gave their permission and blessings to comes to light.

I have enjoyed smoked salmon as an occasional treat, but can't in good conscience do so any more. This and other practices are just appalling

Fun fact, farmed salmon has grey flesh. They feed them a dye to get it the right colour. It's a horrible industry, pollutes water and spreads disease and parasites.

FFS where is the line for producers in this country - bombing Australian fur seals? Nope not there. If you can't farm salmon without murdering seals, don't farm salmon.

wild wild australia the animal genosidal!👎

Farmed salmon is one of the most toxic foods in the world.

How does this help the fish?

How do the salmon feel about the boom booms❓

Stopped buying Tassie Salmon after a stop on the Franklin cruise years ago to watch the ‘feeding’. A disaster waiting to happen and appalling ethics. A ghastly eye opener.
