She said that the situation in Northern Ireland was now a matter of the internal peace and security of the United Kingdom. — Tony Connelly May 12, 2022 Liz Truss earlier said the Northern Ireland Protocol was the biggest obstacle to restoring the power-sharing executive at Stormont. What that action is was not spelled out, but there has been a crescendo of briefings from London about introducing legislation to disapply parts of the protocol unilaterally. He reminded his counterpart that with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, upholding the rule of law and abiding by international treaties were a necessity.

"I haven't been given clear timelines yet but given the statement that the foreign secretary has made, it is evident that the likelihood of agreement between the UK and the EU in the short term is remote and so I think it is incumbent now upon the government to act and do so quickly," he told media at the Balmoral Show in Co Antrim.

Mr Martin said that"the goal posts keep on changing" and there was a"growing erosion of trust on the EU side". He told the group that there was"lack of clarity as to what the British Government's landing zone is in respect of the protocol issue".

Hope finland and sweden are paying attention to uk international treaties 😂

The UK gov. going on and on about the Protocol potentially causing violence is scaremongering. The NI police force know who the troublemakers are. NI elections have just returned a majority of pro-Protocol candidates. Take note, England and Wales voted Leave but NI voted Remain.

Okay, it's a typo. He said NI. Thanks, ! But hey, it makes you wonder, are there forces at work to align the RoI with the DUP position on the trade border? It wouldn't be the first time the strong-willed Irish Unionist tail wagged the feckless Irish government dog.

Ireland's (Republic of) or NI's single market membership? Is somebody planning to take the Republic out of the EU?

the best thing the tories can do is get lost!!

The EU are blocking an Executive from being established and putting the peace process at risk by demanding unnecessary checks on goods from Great Britain being consumed in Northern Ireland.

BorisJohnson destroying any international leadership capital Britain has built up since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and now playing directly into Putin's plan ? POTUS

again I say it,why would anyone sign a contract with blighty🙄they just lie and do as they please, rule the waves🤔they cant even rule their minds 👎🤣😷🇮🇪☘️
