Social media platforms committed to put an end to viral videos of terrorist attacks on their platforms. The attack in Buffalo, New York, has revealed that their efforts are still a work in progress 📝: billyperrigo

hree years after social media platforms committed to put an end to viral videos of terrorist attacks on their platforms, the attack in Buffalo, New York, has revealed that their efforts are still a work in progress.

“He knew that as long as there was time for people to watch and download, then this would spread [online] regardless of how quickly Twitch took it down,” said Berntsson in an interview on Monday, referring to the attacker. “Clearly an audience was ready and prepared to download this kind of stuff.” The Buffalo shooter was directly radicalized by those videos. In a manifesto posted online shortly before the attack, seen by TIME, the Buffalo shooter said that he was inspired by the Christchurch attacker’s politics, and that he decided to live stream his own attack in order to inspire others. He also said he chose to stream on Twitch because it had taken the platform 35 minutes to remove the livestream of the Halle attack.

In the immediate wake of the New Zealand attack, many of the world’s biggest social media platforms signed onto the “,” a commitment to stamp out the spread of terrorist content online. Through an industry group, the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism , the platforms are sharing identifying data about the Buffalo shooter’s video and manifesto between them in order to make it easier to remove from their sites.

While hashing’s shortcomings are not the root cause of the problem, some counterterrorism experts say they are one of the core weaknesses in the platforms’ current joint approach to terrorist content. “The patchy response from various platforms that are [members] of the hash-sharing database arguably suggests that improvements can be made,” Berntsson says.

Some in the sector have lost patience with the platforms. “I’m sure there’s issues with people remixing content and only posting a clip of it, and all of the tricks that we know to try to evade automatic detection,” says Kayyali, who sits on civil-society advisory boards for both the Christchurch Call and GIFCT.

Brock Obamas an atheist majority of atheist don’t care about humanity they only care about sex I know personally atheist Plus the black community cried to me about what a awful man!

Oh joshsteen seems like they are still struggling with the same thing as what happened to Ronnie.

They should start with the viral terror attack that is that hobbit kim Kardashian's sex tape.

The new Texas law preventing social media organizations from censoring content would have demanded the full stream of the mass shooting in Buffalo. And all of its replays.

In those social media companies anti social elements are working.... That's why they become isolation media 👎👎

Some people can get an emotional damage

Why are the Trumplicans' reactions to the latest mass shooting & 'White Replacement Theory'(WRT) inconsistent; given how much they opposed CRT & used that to drive a wedge between Americans? Their silence is an act of complicity & an affirmation they've embraced racists & racism!

Trump, Trumplicans & FOX (specifically Tucker Carlson) hide behind the U.S. Constitution to surreptitiously use WRT & CRT to spew their twisted big lies to stoke the flames of fear&hatred & tear America apart! STOP THE TREACHERY! STOP THE HATE! SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY! VOTE BLUE!

These platforms like YouTube and Facebook are so quick to take down a live stream or a video can be hit with a copyright strike or claim when copyright music is detected surely they have the technology to take down these terrorist live streams and videos.

Just think if we did this with 9/11 footage. It's important to know. It's important to see what a animal that person was. It's important to understand how truly disgusting his actions where, and how the innocents suffered. Why would you want to destroy that testimony of his evil.

People are the worlds worst invention

billyperrigo It sounds as though they are more committed than American society is to actually stopping such attacks from occurring in the first place.

billyperrigo The videos might not be fit for children but adults should be allowed to see the world they live in as it is, even on social media. Who are they trying to protect here? I learned what terrorism is through videos, reading about it is fine but what’s really wrong with having videos

billyperrigo Perhaps the snuff videos do need to be viewed, so that people will know what they are up against and do something about it? Or get politicians to fix the criminal justice system?

billyperrigo I love this, UsGoverment will do everything except change gun laws. NRARulz

billyperrigo Every grown ass person should see it.

billyperrigo Is Ukraine praying for Buffalo yet? Just asking

billyperrigo Not sure y I’m ‘wanted’
