The Downtown Elgin Farmers Market launches its 22nd season Friday with more vendors and live music, additional children’s activities, and the return of food trucks and Sip and Shop.

The Downtown Elgin Farmers Market opens its season with a First Friday celebration that will keep vendors open through 8 p.m. Many downtown businesses are planning specials to attract market shoppers.

The market is open 3 to 7 p.m. every Friday through October on Spring Street, between Chicago and Fulton streets. On June 3, July 1 and Aug. 5, it will be open until 8 p.m. and additional entertainment and programs offered, Fukala said.Fresh produce as it becomes available through the summer is one of the draws of the Downtown Elgin Farmers Market, which opens for the season Friday.

Downtown businesses have organized informal First Friday events for the past few years but DNA hopes to bring more attention to those attractions, she said. New vendors include Banford Road Farm, Allison’s Wonderland Farm. Heritage Prairie Farm, Mozzafiato Gelato, Three Bees Honey and Chaski’s Fruit Creations, which will be selling Mexican candy.
