This is the best news for first time buyers in decades.

So if you take out a mortgage tomorrow and buy a house somewhere for 240k and a year later it's worth 160k the lender makes a cool 80k which they can invest on cheap properties in a sobered market. Lenders control prices through interest rates. How is this not considered fraud?

If Carney was credible this statement would herald a meltdown in house prices and customer confidence. It’s an extremely serious statement. UK housing accounts for £7tn wealth. So that’s a £2tn loss. But it will have no impact on markets because he’s no longer believed.

When these 'sky is falling' threats are made, they are almost always wrong.

Hurrah!!

Thats actually a good thing! Homes will be affordable for the rest of us!
