Ottawa's suspension of randomized COVID-19 testing at customs marks a "big step" toward clearing clogged terminals, but more measures are needed to end airport gridlock, the head of the Canadian Airports Council says.
"But there's still a lot more work to do, as there were still gate holds, albeit for shorter periods of time. In our business we never want to see people waiting on the tarmac." The government continues to bar most unvaccinated foreigners from entry and require unvaccinated Canadians to quarantine for 14 days when they return.
"People can expect longer wait times in summer, but we shouldn't see anything like we've seen the past month. I think we're getting over that hurdle," Pasher said.
So they were just lying
Call back the unvaccinated workers that were laid off or on unpaid leave simple. You can hire thousands of new workers but it will be difficult to get clearances and training in time. Not to mention lack of experience causing more potential issues
Sick staff. 🤔 What could it be.... Oh right 😷 🤣
Not just not enough, not a factor at all.
But…but…but…removing the mandates will “relax some of the operational challenges at the airports.”
No GTAA has to actually manage their staff. Those long layoffs caused many employees to be recertified or re-cleared. Employees sick with Covid also play a part.
So I'm guessing they think this is better (what happens when basic protections are dropped): This has been going on almost every day in the UK for the past 2 months (started in April, 2 weeks after they dropped basic protections).
At Pearson airport now for domestic travel. Everything normal, no delay, not crowded. While the loudspeaker reminds travellers to 😷 all the time, uniformed security workers, on their break, sitting there massless, talking to each other (not eating/drinking) Transport_gc .
It's almost as tho the airlines don't have enough staff because they laid everyone off and/or they're still stick with covid.
Duh!
For those who never or seldom travel: delays & long line ups are not at all uncommon I don’t think I ever landed in Toronto where there wasn’t a long wait to get out of the airport : never enough custom/immigration agents Pre-CoVid!
Could have told you that. What do we try to blame it on next?
Because that wasn’t the issue to begin with.
Long waits at airports have NOTHING to do with testing, and everything to do with lifting mask mandates and tons of employees getting sick and developing long-Covid.
Duh
Wait! So …it’t NOT Trudeau’s fault? So you boiz were bullshitting all along? Huh!
VoiceOfFranky Suspended COVID-19 testing is “not enough” to ease airport delays because it was never the cause of airport delays.
Ya don't say Anyone that travels knew that COVID testing has zero to do with the issues at the airports!! It's a staffing issue!! It's a mismanagement issue!! STOP repeating the 💩 coming out of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Plymouth Brethren for fuck Sakes!!
Like we didn't see this coming 🤭 Still avoiding the Klondike papers? Seem a tad more important. No?
DrOP ThE MaNdAtEs! Oh that wasn’t the problem
It's headlines like this that confuse people. Delays are due to staff shortage. There are staff shortages in flight attendants and airport staff due to people being off sick. hmmm
They need more customs staff and more security screaming agents would help too. In my experience the worst and longest wait times is in customs.
Europe has been a breeze in many airports
IT was not the cause, staffing shortages caused by sickness and shit wages are. And continue to be CP news for the PC party
No more medical discrimination is great. But anyone with two eyes on their face can see that these delays are a direct impact of staffing shortages. When there is 1 person checking in hundreds of people. The ratio is severely unbalanced.
Staffing... Sh*tty pay. That's the real story
No shit…
Surprise!!!! Said even 1/4 smart ppl anywhere
Trudeau in hiding again with COVID, like the kid that could not go in and face the exam, this is a security threat, they cannot allow him out anywhere.
Jeez! It's almost like Covid Testing was never really the problem in the first place! Who could have imagined? 🤔 CdnPoli CdnMedia CdnMediaFails
Once everyone has the Pfizer smile then
Maybe it never had anything to do with that! Can I sell youbsome over priced crypto while we are at it?
FFS... Why bother telling the truth now? Rubbing your lies, Red Herrings and exaggerations in our face once again, CdnMedia. 😒
Hmmm, maybe they'll blame the carbon tax next?
DUH!
Really? It’s almost as if this wasn’t the issue all along! Hmmmm...
So moving the rando incoming testing that was done after customs didn’t fix the problem? Huh. 🤔
This ad was bought and paid for by JustinTrudeau !!
CP24 missing the true story as usual.
It’s not the covid testing it’s the lack of staff
The real delays were the friends we made along the way.
What does the airline industry want. A handout so they can hire more people, still price gouge and maintain profits?
Oh, right, like most people said - it was not the mandates only but staff shortages as well. So much for all the screaming about mandates then.
Innovative idea: Pay people enough to attract them to a job. There is no excuse for short staffing.
VoiceOfFranky Because it was never about the mandates, it never has been
Hire back the ones that were fired. Simple.
Duh!
Elmamabear Canadians believe they know what would help. What will it take to get it done?
Only trudeau goes anywhere freely and keeps Canadians imprisoned we need change that mf ruined canada
I just travelled internationally and been to Pearson last week and this week. I dont see the delays people are talking about. Perhaps not on my terminal? Im sure its not the mandate that causing delays, its the labor shortage. Pearson & airlines should start hiring now
quelle surprise
Covid-19 was and still a lie released from the prison. The unvaccinated are not criminals we just chose love ❤️ of self over poison
Maybe it's also all of the unnecessary questioning from the CBSA (e.g. re: tobacco and alcohol). If it fits in a suitcase next to the dirty laundry, who cares?
Because the testing is done after u cross customs ... stop repeating the Cons lies ...
😂😂😂😂 you really think that it was the reason for airport delays. Airports across the world, including in countries without any mandates, are having the same problem. Stop believing freedumb propaganda
seems many of you never bothered to read past the headlines, as in all of you that said, oh it wasnt the issue. If you bothered to read, you would have noticed it did help, there is just more that needs to be done. Please, if you are going to comment, read the past the title
An improvement immediately after dropping the arbitrary testing Wow, so exactly what all the industry experts predicted. Industry experts also say that wait times will be further reduced by dropping all mandates. Do you think they might be right about that too?
Its Not That They Dont Have Enough Workers At The Airport I Work At The Airport Dont Blame The Workers Its The Guverment They Aint Helpin So Talk To Your Politician
Of course not. Its the vaccine mandate that is holding everything up.
We see improvement at Pearson Airport.
END THE MANDATES
Shhhh…what will CONs & CON media use now…to blame PMJT for it!? I’m sure CPC24 will find something soon. CanadianMediaFailed
Wow!... How long are you going to beat this dead horse
Much of the delays isn’t because of covid protocols, but more because of short staffing! No pilots, no aircraft crew= lengthy delays and cancellations!
Jesus you guys are just absolute shit at your jobs. Grow a pair and state the freaking obvious that it had nothing to do with testing, but an inability to attract employees because of shit wages/ hours and covid infections and a 5 day return to work policy keeping covid active.
No shit. Did people actually think the delays were caused by this? It's staffing. Time to give baggage handlers a raise
They need to eliminate any COVID-19 related mandate to make life easier.
Drop the mandates. Or at least provide science based justification for them, not out of date self reporting studies.
People still think covids real?
Absolutely! I was there last night and the problem is there are no customs staff. There was maybe 10 for all the international flights that were arriving.
Oh gee, I wonder what it could actually be? It doesn't take a genius to figure this out. Now stop me if you've heard of this before, ok? Covid19. I know! Its crazy, right?
It's over population being the cause for me
Ya think? It's a bloody staffing problem but oh surely you can find another way to blame JustinTrudeau cdnmedia is an absolute joke!
Duh. It's about the airlines and airports skimping on employees - obvious.
CTVNews GlobalNational am640 RebelNewsOnline rumour has it that liberal_party JustinTrudeau OmarAlghabra is paying airports to build holding rooms(cells) to take people of airplane and lock them up in rooms instead of keeping on planes. airportchaos Canada cdnpoli
Airports: We have the highway landing fees in the world but don’t want to hire staff so let’s blame the mandates because what we really want is passengers to buy tickets. More passengers come Airports: drop even more public health measures
No duh
Obviously. It was never the issue.
Well JustinTrudeau proved to us today that the shots do not stop infection, so not stop spread as he won’t go near the unvaxed and by that are not helping you protect others so the mandates are useless.
The ArriveCAN, attestations etc all need to go along with the useless masks
Finding a cure for gross incompetence is the answer.
Of course it's not. That was never really what was causing the line ups. It's the fact that they have 10 - 15ish CBSA booths with only 3 ppl working them. The ones placed on Forced Unpaid Leaves WANT THEIR JOBS BACK!!!!
Of course not. You are selected “randomly” (a sticker put in your passport by a custom officer that decides it), and then you are sent to a line to take the test, just after you have picked up your baggage and ready to LEAVE the airport.
Remove ALL restrictions and give people their jobs back. Remove Trudeau. Done.
Drop all the mandatesssss
Poll: Should airlines hike prices to stress test the market? AirCanada WestJet porterairlines
... because it was labour shortages all along?
