NEW YORK, June 17 — Wall Street shares opened higher today trying to recoup some of the losses suffered in recent days amid aggressive central bank action against inflation that has flamed recession fears.

About 30 minutes into the final trading session of the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.5 percent at 30,083.37, after closing below 30,000 for the first time since January 2021. But Patrick J O'Hare of Briefing.com noted that the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 are down 4.7 percent, 6.1 percent, and 6.0 percent, respectively, for the week.
