The first job i had was at a law practice where the father of the owner would always try to hug the young ones like me, and the older ladies were always letting us know when he was coming and protecting us in general from him.

I used to work in a ted baker shop and the ‘culture’ was nothing short of horrible. Forcing people to come in and work for free in ‘training sessions’ at 0800hrs on a saturday even if they were off and setting unpaid ‘homework’ amongst a creepy environment.
This is an American corporate custom. British people are not hugging types. Hence they were viewed stiff upper lipped and emotionally reserved. It is company policy in the us to say have a nice day. Something UK resisted for years. Until diana came along.
