I just don’t know where they get it from 🤷🏼‍♂️👀

I still have my scar and never felt movies stigmatized it. I find they add character and contribute to the plot. Half the time they are never the focus.

lynnenright You should go see mortal_engines for a heroine with a scar!

While I can understand why there is a gripe about the scars, under discussion. When it comes to wanting to scare the s.....t out of the audience, a pretty face doesn't always work as well as a scary face. And why do you think it's called 'FICTION'?

Tony Montana had a scar on his face in that movie, I forget what it's called. He was the hero.

lynnenright I wonder how many who’ve commented negatively here have experienced/know the trauma of scarring, the treatment, reconstruction, pain, daily slog of scar care, getting used to a change in appearance, and the negative impact media representations have on that whole process? Think!

But not all villains have scars

I think this doesn't take into account the numerous heros who have scars or blemishes like V, any Harrison Ford character and so on. To suggest that it exclusively used to villify people is quite short sighted. md5123

It is VISUAL ART. Which means that it has to use things that appeal to the eye for effect. Why carp and quibble over everything?

They don't need to realize it. And u need to mind ur business, and stop telling how art is supposed to be made.

It's all Greek to me(!)

Please. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I won’t click on stupid 🙄

When will people accept reality? Facial scars make a person more scary. Same is true for facial tattoos, having a skinhead, being physically imposing etc. We will end up with gender neutral, completely average villains that aren't allowed to be scary.

Well, we also had the movie Wonder out last year, which was about a kid who’s had multiple facial reconstruction surgeries.

Hopefully when it realizes being gender non-conforming or queer doesn't make you one either.

The Guardian has zero credibility and should be banned from Twitter

Huh?

Huge amounts of heroes also have scars, it's not a trope, it's a reminder of their origins and is usually a positive contributor to a story arc

Hey you and this story are ridiculous. I'm short and I want to stop all short people from acting in a role where they don't get the girl. CANT YOU SEE HOW RIDICULOUS THIS SOUNDS. BUT THATS RIGHT YOU TOOK THEIR BRIBES SO NOW YOU HAVE TO BE THEIR PUPPET!

Just fire whoever wrote this shitty article

when a kid has been walking around with a lightning strike scar on his forehead for nearly 20years. thats when!

The Joker’s scars didn’t make him a villain, and Inivo Montoya’s scars didn’t make him a hero.

everyone and anyone is a victim!

To be fair. I never tried to rob a bank using a giant typewriter and a gang of robot mermaids before I got my scars.

When they make Harry Potter into a film 👍🏻 oh wait..

When will the guardian types realise not every villain has a scar and every villain with a scar doesn't represent people with scars in real life. These are films, adults are clever enough to distinguish these things, stop trying to ban everything.

Jesus. Sometimes I think the Guardian must be joking.

Harry Potter? Nick Fury? Jonah Hex? Deadpool? heck even Batman is covered in scars all over his body! lazy trope sure but it goes both ways... 🤦🏾‍♂️

You know that the scar on the photo aren’t made up by the film industry, do you?!?

Yes, very disrespectful to scar challenged persons. We must only have smooth skinned villains in future.

When will the SJW community stop manufacturing bullshit reasons to be upset about things. The joker fell into a vat of acid for fucksake!

Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister have scars. I don’t think Heath Ledger did in The Dark Knight. This article is odd.

Yes, now if you’re a politician... scary as hell.

Only in the cuts

Come on guys this is too far.

Fucking hell snowflakes are falling early this Christmas
