The project is still going through the provincial environmental assessment process, and documents are due to be registered this fall for the federal government’s environmental assessment process. “But if we had the co-operation of the Government of Canada, we could expedite that to perhaps 2028.”It was the first time a First Nations became a partner in an offshore energy project in the province.“I would say there’s a very bullish case for exports of low carbon energy, like LNG, from Newfoundland to energy-hungry markets like Germany, and Europe in general,” said Power.
