Tech CU Arena is officially open. And the San Jose Barracuda, the American Hockey League companion team to the NHL's San Jose Sharks, have a new home for its upcoming season.

Representatives of Barracuda owner Sharks Sports & Entertainment, Technology Credit Union and the city of San Jose took part in a ribbon cutting Wednesday inside the new 4,200-seat facility at 1500 S. 10th St. The arena is neighbors to to Excite Ballpark, where the San Jose Giants play, and CEFCU Stadium, home of the San Jose State University Spartans. 200,000-square-foot expansion of the Sharks Ice at San Jose public skating facility.

Sharks officials boasted of its environmentally-friendly elements, including being LEED-certified Silver. Among its green elements: Bloom Energy cells, high efficiency LED lighting, an electric Zamboni and electric vehicle chargers for visitors.
