My teams stay busy identifying the needs of the customers and working to solve those problems. I feel we're wallowing in mud and not getting ahead. What’s wrong?There’s an obsession with finding the need and solving the problem. Over and over again. Big, little, different, new problems! It's like playing Whack-a-Mole.
Just keep swinging at problems that keep cropping up. Of course, teams need to solve problems, but what happens is the team energy gets depleted. It's tiring and frustrating. It's the wrong thing to do — being in constant fire-fighting mode. Instead, look from today to the future. What needs to be accomplished to create a customer experience, to continually improve the products and services?
Create the system, processes, and culture to pivot out of the needs mode and into a mode of continual improvement and innovation. It means innovation in leadership thinking. Gather together at a retreat or offsite to invest time and strategically think about accelerating your methods to achieve your goals.
