The 220 year old Morecambe Bay shrimp company favoured by the Queen - and you won't find it in supermarkets

James Baxter & Son of Morecambe is a family run business that has been around for seven generations - in fact, it's officially one of the oldest company's in Lancashires, established back in 1799.

They continue to supply the Royal Household to this day and 'food fit for a King' rings true for this small business.Most of the Baxter family were farmers and fishermen before the potted shrimp was 'invented' and it quickly became a local treat, particularly in Morecambe Bay. The Baxter family capitalised on these new food product and since that day, its popularity has endured, with many renowned celebrity chefs praising its quality over the years.

James Baxter & Son have said on their website: ‘We are very proud to be the seventh generation running Baxter's and that their slogan - ‘If it's a fish course, it's Baxter's of course’ - still resonates throughout the firm today.’ Known as a local Lancashire delicacy, Baxter's potted shrimp are sold on their online website as well as a vast majority being sold through specialist fish shops - you won’t find them in any supermarkets. It appears their most expensive product is 6x200g worth of potted shrimps at £98 and the cheapest being Baxter's Prawn Cocktail at £3.95.
