Lancashire MPs tackle Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng on East Lancs investment zones after mini budget announced

Two East Lancashire Conservative MPs have launched a campaign to bring one of the government’s new low tax, low red tape investment zones to the county.

In the House of Commons Mr Higginbotham told Mr Kwarteng: “In East Lancashire we stand ready to lead this country in aerospace, in cyber, in small modular reactors – so can I urge you to look sympathetically on a bid from East Lancashire.

The Chancellor confirmed the county could. Speaking later Mr Higginbotham said: “An Investment Zone here in Lancashire would be a game changer for local businesses. This is about unlocking growth through tax incentives in areas which need more investment. “For too long our area has been left behind but that’s now changing.” Ms Britcliffe MP said: “Investment zones have the potential to attract more highly skilled jobs to Lancashire, and I will be making the case for Hyndburn and Haslingden.”
