How could Microsoft lessen the competition when Sony and Nintendo has the vast majority of market share

I hate this current slew of acquisitions, it’s the death knell of high budget, high risk original content

Why bother? A decade ago they adquired RARE and NOTHING HAPPENED. Just to clarify that RARE are one of the most innovative game developers and masterminds behind many incredible games but Microsoft didn't bother much about it.
