Marcus Sasser, passing against Virginia last November, was off to a strong start before a foot injury ended his season. This offseason, Sasser has piled up national recognition and honors. He has been mentioned among the top players in college basketball, a likely precursor for preseason All-American and on the early list for national player of the year. He joins Jamal Shead and Tramon Mark to form what many consider the top backcourt in the nation.

In a show of respect, Sasser, not reigning AAC player of the year Kendric Davis of Memphis, was given the preseason nod. Davis was the runaway winner of the award last season at SMU after producing an AAC-best 19.4 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds.
