A transformational project proposed at St. Augustine's major intersection of U.S. 1 and King Street appears headed for approval, St. Augustine Commissioner and Mayor-Elect Nancy Sikes-Kline said Friday.
With the structure of the city government, Sikes-Kline has just one of five votes on the Commission, but she thinks the project will receive support when it goes to the Commission for a second reading Oct. 24. An item must pass a first and second reading to be approved. However, the current setup is far from picturesque with several old commercial enterprises on the west side of U.S. 1 — including the liquor store — and a medical marijuana dispensary on the other side. There's also a small park on the east side of the intersection that was installed after a car wash was removed.
