The CEO of Macy's just weighed in on the future of the company's Union Square store.

At a Business Times event, San Francisco Mayor London Breed once mentioned off-handedly that she fears Macy's will abandon its Union Square store someday.— and it's no secret that retail has suffered amid the pandemic and the continued shift to e-commerce.The CEO of Macy's, Jeff Gennette, spoke to Jim Cramer of CNBC's “Mad Money” recently about the store, which, like all Macy's , is home to a new Toys R Us pop-up this holiday season.

Cramer asked Gennette about the size of the store and what he thinks of the city's crime and safety initiatives these days. A year ago, Union Square was marred by several high-profile crimes that garnered nationwide attention. On Monday, Breed announced an expansion of community ambassadors and civilian police department personnel to help improve public safety downtown.
