Mounted in the rim of an electric vehicle’s wheels, the motors increase efficiency by delivering power directly to where it’s needed most.

In 1900, Ferdinand Porsche and Ludwig Lohner unveiled an electric car with battery-powered motors attached to its front wheels. It was seen as a sensation, but the technology never took off as petrol cars accelerated to world domination. More than a century later, in-wheel motors are making a comeback. “In-wheel motors are a game changer,” says Luka Ambrozic, chief commercial officer of Slovenian company Elaphe Propulsion Technologies, one of the leading developers of the technology.

These examples show that in-wheel motors can be used for both lightweight and heavy-duty applications, says Ambrozic, although the designs must be tweaked for each purpose. “It’s not about having a one-size-fits-all motor,” he says. But some industry experts believe in-wheel motors may have limited uptake in mainstream markets.

Article says less durable.. 4 motors vs 1 is probably not a good stat for reliability either.. Although I had hoped it would make replacements easier than doing a full engine out.

Using kinetic energy as a power source? 😂🎪

I noticed they didn't say anything about more distance or faster charge time. These 2 things are the biggest drawbacks to EVs. Infrastructure not withstand.

What do they lubricate these moving parts with olive oil?

A $60k car taken out by pot holes. Instead of just changing out the rim you change out the whole car.

It's a dream supercar. Thank you geniuses. Amen

Yeah, unlikely. The added weight to the rims and wheels is bad for handling and performance.

Right, a $24,000 option on a $90,000 car that you can’t charge in California!

There is a problem with the tire. Because you are using too much charcoal rubber. Thank you. Amen

Elon owns tesla and Twitter..all the climate cult Twitter addicts must be so pissed lol
